History of McGavin’s Bakery
McGavin’s bakery was started in 1942 by James Edwin McGavin. It was originally located at 331 N Callow Ave before moving to 617 N Callow, and then later to our current day operations at 619 N Callow Ave.
McGavin’s Bakery was owned and operated for 33 years under Peggy and Ruben Kleinbach. Ruben, along with fellow baker Bob Haddon, were the creators of the pink champagne cake to which McGavin’s Bakery still today is popularly known for.
Bill Sheldon took over ownership and operations of McGavin’s Bakery in 1981 carrying on the pink champagne cake tradition for 36 years before his passing. Today, McGavin’s Bakery remains in the Sheldon family under ownership of Bill’s sons, Lance and Billy who worked at the bakery during their childhood and throughout their high school years. In 2018, Lance created the triple chocolate champagne cake, a chocolate lovers dream! Our products are based on traditional recipes that have been with the bakery for decades.
